Surrounded with affection, Bernard Duval passed away on April 19, 2008. He was the beloved husband of France Lavoie and the son of André Duval and Fabienne Deschênes, previously of Québec City.
He leaves his wife France, “the love of his life”, his dear children Isabelle, François and Mireille Duval (Dominic Bellavance); his sister Catherine Duval-Russell, his brother Nicolas Duval (Pauline Lavoie), his sister-in-law Micheline Lavoie (Franco Abate), his brother-in-law Claude Lavoie (Renée Audet), as well as several uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces, in particular his god-children Geneviève Béchard, Jérôme Duval, Evelyne Russell and Véronique Duval. Many colleagues and friends are sharing our sorrow and grief.
His humanism, his expertise and his leadership were recognized throughout the public health sector in Québec and Canada, especially among the vaccination research team of the CHUQ of which he was one of the founders. He was enthusiastic about his latest project, the first preventative vaccine for a form of cancer. He was a man of spirit and of unequalled devotion, from his work in Africa to his family, parish and workplace.
We also want to underline his deep love of music, and in particular, choral music. His spiritual presence will always be part of le Choeur Les Rhapsodes, a choir of which he had been a member since 1968. His fine bass voice will now no doubt join that of the heavenly chorus of angels.
Thanks to the staff of the 8th floor of the Hotel-Dieu Hospital in Québec City and especially Dr Mélanie Saint-Pierre, who comforted him in his suffering. Thanks also to Drs Brian Ward, Miguel Burnier and Peter Metrakos from Montreal. Thanks to them, we have been able to live in hope for the last 8 months.
